    This February we’re proud to feature Jack Murat, a Queensland-based coffee grower and roaster doing something genuinely rare in Australian coffee. They don’t just roast coffee here. They grow it here.

    Based in Mareeba on the Atherton Tablelands, Jack Murat sits right in the global coffee growing belt, where tropical conditions, elevation and clean air create the perfect environment for premium Arabica coffee. Nestled between World Heritage rainforest and outback savannah, this is Australian terroir at its finest.

    Jack Murat’s story begins in 1929, when Hymet “Jack” Murat arrived in North Queensland at just sixteen years old. Starting as a woodcutter, he later established the very farm where Jack Murat coffee is grown today. Nearly a century on, that same land is producing high-quality Australian coffee that carries his name, his work ethic and his belief in doing things properly.

    Their Red and Yellow Catuai varietals were introduced to Mareeba through a government initiative and have been carefully nurtured since planting in 2014 and 2016. Slow cherry maturation, sandy clay loam soils and a distinct wet and dry season allow flavour to develop naturally, producing coffee that is clean, structured and uniquely Australian.

    Jack Murat processes their coffees using washed, natural and honey methods, combining traditional techniques with modern technology. Mechanical harvesting, optical sorting and a wet mill developed alongside Colombian experts ensure consistency without compromise. Every bag is fully traceable to plot, harvest date and processing method.

    Roasting happens on-farm in Mareeba and in Sydney, allowing coffee to move from tree to cup in just days. It’s some of the freshest Australian grown coffee you can drink.
