rodigal Coffee Roasters is one of those stories that stays with you. A roastery born from second chances, rebuilt identity and a return to purpose. Founded by Caleb Podhaczky, Prodigal sits at the base of the Mornington Peninsula in Hastings, roasting coffee for people who want flavour, honesty and experience without the ego.

Caleb’s journey reads like a whole career packed into one life. Barista since 2002. Head Roaster at 5 Senses. Head Roaster at Ceremony Coffee in the US. Multiple Victorian Barista Championship wins. Then everything fell apart. Returning to Australia, Caleb found himself fighting for his life, his mental health and his sense of place.

Prodigal became the turning point. It started with a one-kilo roaster in 2019, four months sober, and a desire for something to hold onto. What began as a hobby became a new chapter built on discipline, clarity and a lot of heart. Today, Prodigal is home to a full roastery, an espresso bar in Hastings and a thriving café in nearby Tyabb.

Prodigal is coffee rebuilt from the inside out — grounded, approachable and made for the everyday drinker who loves flavour without the fuss.
